How Many Ways Can You Say “Corruption”–Vote for the RECALL and Send a Message

Corruption is so common and pervasive in Miami-Dade in the employ of public funds that it’s no longer thought of as corruption, just regular business expenses.

The investigation by the Office of the Inspector General found Rodriguez had opened American Express cards for many FHS and Jackson Memorial Foundation employees in a manner that ensured all the awards points flowed to him.

Between June 2007 and October 2010, Rodriguez redeemed over 6.8 million reward points – worth about $63,000. The inspector general’s report, however, focused only on 985,908 points, worth about $9,000, that were earned by the business activities of FHS. FHS runs Jackson’s international marketing activities and operates on government funds provided by Jackson.

For those who are sick and tired of county taxes and administrative arrogance, this is a good time to vote for the recall of the county mayor.  Start voting now.  This may not be a definitive message, but it will be for politicians think twice about raising taxes.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll see if County Mayor Carlos Alvarez can muster the support that propelled him to office in 2004 and 2008, and also him more powers.

Increased House Sales Not Really So Great For Local Governments

Increases in home sales in South Florida should lead to a reduction in assessed property values and further reductions in city and county revenues at the current tax rates.

This may lead to increases in property taxes and fees next September just to hold the line on tax revenues.

When will the commissions of Coral Gables and the county get us off this roller coaster.

Man Speeds Around Bus, Hits Elderly Man on Sidewalk, Runs | Transit Miami

TransitMiami.com reports on the truly crazy driver, of which there are many in this city.  There are few cities in the US in which pedestrians and other drivers are so little respected.

The cult of speed and the lack of traffic law enforcement in Miami is killing our residents. 4 in 10 fatal traffic accidents kill people who are walking or bicycling in Miami-Dade County, making ours one of the most dangerous cities in the country for active transportation users. VIDEO from the bus camera is shocking and clearly shows the man about to board the bus, the bus doors opening, the SUV blindsiding him and then the driver running away.
