11:15 a.m.: Florida’s Department of Health on Thursday confirmed 7,650 additional cases of COVID-19, pushing the state’s known total to 510,389. There were also 120 Florida resident deaths announced, bringing the statewide resident death toll to 7,747.

Warden denied her compassionate release

Johnson, a non-violent inmate with two young sons, had petitioned the prison for compassionate release. The warden had rejected the request. She became the first inmate in Coleman low — as in low-security — to die from the virus, according Bureau of Prison records. There are 182 inmates and 21 staffers in total who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the facility, which has been beset by a series of problems, including a Legionnaire’s Disease outbreak and allegations of sexual abuse. Family members describe the situation as dire, with more woman getting sick daily.

Florida 257!

Florida’s Department of Health on Friday confirmed 9,007 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s known total to 470,386. There were also 257 Florida resident deaths announced, breaking a fatality record for the fourth straight day. The statewide resident death toll is now at 6,843.
