More than a dozen UM professors, lecturers and graduate students — some who didn’t want to comment for this story for fear of retaliation — raised the same concerns as Evans. Employees also questioned UM’s top-down approach in the decision-making process and what they say is a lack of shared governance. More than 500 faculty members have signed a petition seeking that they choose how they will teach.
University of Miami professors revolt over coronavirus response | Miami Herald
A protest of UM professors has finally boiled to the top. The university seems to proceeding “hell or high water” based on top down decision making and over optimistic expectations that students attending classes on campus will follow highly regimented and extreme rules that are unlikely to be accepted by many of the regular students who live off campus. And many live in extended families in Miami. Evidence is that there has been a big failure in Miami (meaning Miami-Dade County) of the population, both young and old, to avoid social gathering. Professors are right to be very concerned for their health.
