Only about 25% of potential voters participate in our always off-year elections.

The Commission and the outgoing Mayor who studied changes the city charter, didn’t trust our voters to pick the candidates on a majority basis. They knew what they were doing–keep 25% of the registered voters from voting.

This is tacit voter suppression.

Are our voters ignorant, stupid, and uncaring about our city. I think not.

If the national and state elections can be trusted to the largest number of voters from all parties, independents, social and racial categories, why don’t our commissioners trust in changing the election date to coincide with national and state elections?
