This site comments on events in the City of Coral Gables, as well as Florida and South Florida. Coral Gables is a lovely, dynamic city of some 40,000 inhabitants with a pattern of citizen participation and well organized residential and commercial development. The City Beautiful also faces serious management, financial and organizational issues that have yet to be solved.
Stephen E. McGaughey, PhD, is a consultant and former executive of the Inter-American Development Bank in economic development program management and financing. He was Representative of the bank in El Salvador in the post-war reconstruction period and Representative in the Dominican Republic. He has dealt extensively with large-scale international finance and technical assistance for local and municipal development, NGO support, governance, disaster response and management, agriculture, rural development and natural resources, social development, poverty alleviation and environmental policy. He has taught economics at Georgetown University. He has written books, articles and reports on the environment, natural resources, disaster management, agriculture and rural development in Latin America.
